Float the Guadalupe River Horseshoe
The Horseshoe is a two-mile loop where the Guadalupe curves back on itself — you float in one side and walk half a mile back to your start. It's one of the best tubing experiences in Texas: cold spring-fed water, easy current, beautiful Hill Country scenery. Kayaking & Fishing the Cove
Turkey Cove comes with two sit-on-top kayaks — grab one and paddle the sheltered cove before breakfast. The water is calm, clear to the bottom in places, and completely out of boat traffic. Canyon Lake is well-regarded for largemouth and smallmouth bass, catfish, and crappie. Kayak fishing from the cove is a great low-key option; Ramp 2 next door gives you boat launch access for larger water.
Canyon Lake Gorge
In 2002, a catastrophic flood scoured the limestone above the Canyon Lake dam and exposed 100 million years of geological history — including Cretaceous-era dinosaur tracks that had never seen daylight. Today you can walk through it on a guided tour. It's one of the most unusual natural attractions in Texas and most people have never heard of it. Guided tours run about 3 hours, $15–20 per person. Historic Gruene & Gruene Hall
Gruene Hall has been open since 1878 — the oldest continuously operating dance hall in Texas. Willie Nelson, George Strait, Lyle Lovett, and hundreds more have played this room. The wooden floors, tin roof, and open-air sides are all original. The whole Gruene Historic District is worth an afternoon: antique shops, the Guadalupe River, and Gruene General Store. It's a full-day excursion for groups or families. The original New Braunfels park has been operating since 1979 and still delivers. Wine Tasting in the Texas Hill Country
The Texas Hill Country is the second-largest wine region in the US, and several excellent wineries are within easy reach of Canyon Lake. Fawncrest Vineyard overlooks the lake and has been producing wine since 1998. La Cruz de Comal is a Hill Country favorite open Saturday–Sunday for tastings.
